Generals Drop Series Opener In Seattle

The Eugene Generals (9-18-0-1) suffered a 4-1 defeat at the hands of the Seattle Jr. Thunderbirds (29-11-1) on Saturday evening at Sno-King Ice Arena in Kirkland, Washington.

Making this season’s first trip to Sno-King Ice Arena, the Generals and Jr. T-Birds kicked off a two-game series on Saturday night with Seattle searching for their first win against Eugene this season (0-4-0-0).

Seattle entered the weekend series having won the Las Vegas Invitational during MLK weekend while the Gens had recently returned from a cross-country trip where they played three games against EHL and EHL Premier opponents over a three-day stretch.

Seattle for the start they were looking for with less than six minutes off the clock in the first when Alex Britten scored unassisted to put the Jr. T-Birds ahead, 1-0.

Neither side tickled the twine in the second period leaving the Generals trailing, 1-0, entering the final 20 minutes of regulation.

Eugene got on the board and leveled the score with 9:09 left in regulation when Jared Coday netted his team-leading 22nd goal of the season off assists from Hunter Boivin and Cody Arbelovsky.

However, that was the only time that the Gens were able to light the lamp on Saturday night while the Jr. Thunderbirds struck three times in the game’s final seven minutes to hand the Gens a 4-1 defeat.

Eugene and Seattle wrap up their two-game series at 9:20am PST on Sunday morning at Sno-King Ice Arena in Kirkland, Washington.
