The Eugene Generals (6-13-0-1) are set to resume play this weekend when the team welcomes the Portland Jr. Winterhawks (20-14-0-1) to the Emerald Valley for a two-game, Friday-Saturday series at The Rink Exchange.
After enjoying a two-week break over the winter holidays, practices resumed Wednesday morning to mark the official start of a busy month ahead that will feature multiple home series, starting with this weekend's matchup against Portland.
The upcoming two-game series between the Generals and Jr. 'Hawks will be the third and fourth meetings of the season between the two programs. Previously, Portland swept a two-game series against Eugene back in mid-October with narrow wins of 3-2 (SO) and 6-4. This time around, the Generals aim to exact some revenge and level the season series between the two teams.
Entering the second half of the season, first-year forward Jared Coday still sits at or near the top of the Generals statsheet in all major offensive categories. The SoCal native has tallied 17 goals and 10 assists for 27 overall points through 18 games played this season. Right behind him is veteran forward Cody Arbelovsky who will look to continue the strong form that saw him score eight goals over the team's final five games of 2018.
Eugene will also look to be bolstered by the addition of second-year forward Griffin Minchin who previously missed the team's appearance at the 2018 NA3HL Showcase after suffering an upper body injury in a game against Seattle on December 8.
In net, first-year netminder Carson Roisum has consistently handled high shot totals to post a strong .911 save percentage through 15 games played while 20-year-old Skyler Larsen has tallied three wins in five appearances so far this season.
The matchup against the visiting Jr. Winterhawks continues this season's slate of games against elite 18U opponents as the 2018-19 schedule features a wide array of Tier III junior, ACHA collegiate, and 18U opponents, a diverse schedule format that can be likened to that of USA Hockey’s National Team Development Program (NTDP).
The Eugene Generals maintain Independent sanctioning by USA Hockey and are the only Tier III junior hockey program in the Northwest to be officially sanctioned by USA Hockey.
