Series Preview - Sun Devils Set For Showdown In Eugene

The Eugene Generals (3-6-1) will be back on home ice this Thursday, October 26th as they'll host the Arizona State Sun Devils (6-4-0) at The Rink Exchange in Eugene, Oregon.

That matchup will be the first-ever meeting between the two programs as the Generals continue this season's slate of collegiate opponents.

Eugene will enter the game against ASU less than one week removed from a disappointing series in Washington that saw the Generals drop both games vs. Western Washington University by a two-goal margin (Friday: 3-1, Saturday: 6-4).

Arizona State will be the third collegiate opponent to face off against the Generals this season. Eugene has previously played the University of Oregon and Western Washington University, and the Generals have posted a combined record of 1-2-1 against those opponents so far this season.

Defensemen Jackson Baughman and Nash Berkowitz will both be unavailable for Thursday's game as they will each be serving suspensions stemming from this past Saturday's game against Western Washington.

Thursday's game vs. ASU will be Eugene's final game before departing to Boston to participate in the USPHL Islanders Hockey Club Showcase (Nov. 10-13).

The Opponent

Arizona State boasts what is arguably the nation's most renown club hockey program, and for good reason. The Sun Devils field teams at both the Division I and Division II levels of the ACHA, with ASU's DI team skating as a member of the Western Collegiate Hockey League (WCHL) while its DII team plays within the PAC-8 Conference, which also includes the Oregon Ducks

The success of Arizona State's ACHA program, which won a national championship during the 2013-14 season, helped spurn the creation of the university's NCAA Division I hockey team that began play in the 2015-16 season. Austin Lemieux, who helped lead Islanders Hockey Club to the 2016-17 USPHL Premier Division Championship, is a member of the Sun Devils' NCAA Division I team and is currently in the midst of a redshirt year. Islanders Hockey Club is the NCDC affiliate of the Eugene Generals.

As to be expected, ASU's Division II teams boasts a deep and diverse lineup with seventeen different Sun Devil skaters that have scored at least once through the team's first ten games this season. Leading the way up front is Aaron Burden (5/6/11), Markus Valvur (6/2/8) and Cameron Ward (5/2/7) while goaltenders Mark Becica (2-2, 3.82 GAA, .891 SV%) and Zachary Sanchez (3-2, 4.20 GAA, .875 SV%) have split the majority of the ice time available in net.

Matchup Notes

Extended Stay For Sun Devils - Following Thursday night's game, Arizona State will stick around in the Emerald Valley to play a two-game series vs. the University of Oregon. The Ducks and Sun Devils face off Friday and Saturday night at The Rink Exchange with both games scheduled to start at 7:00pm PST. Tickets will be available for purchase at the door and you can also watch both games between the Ducks and Sun Devils online via Oregon Hockey

Camp Connections - How did this matchup come to be? The way most things get done in the world of hockey: forging friendships. ASU Head Coach Josh Brown and Assistant Coach Chad Bailey both served as volunteer coaches at this year's Western Regional High Performance Camp in Colorado Springs, Colorado. There, the two met a number of Generals staff members (GM Flint Doungchak, Associate GM Alex Stimson, Head Coach Justin Kern, Assistant Coach Daniel Gomez) that were also in attendance serving as WRHP Camp volunteers. Months later, the two staffs reconnected and ultimately found an opening in both schedules that allowed the matchup to happen.

Ticket Info - Tickets are available for purchase online via (BUY NOW). Tickets will also be available for purchase in-person starting at 5:30pm PST on Thursday at the Eugene Generals Box Office, located at The Rink Exchange.
