Eugene, OR – The Eugene Generals (21-15-1-1) lost their last regular season home game 6-2 to the Wenatchee Wolves (36-1-0-0) Saturday night at the Rink Exchange.
Playing in their Fan Appreciation Night in front of a large, energetic crowd, the Generals could not overcome an early deficit, allowing the first four goals of the game.
Three of Wenatchee’s six goals came in the first period. Griffin Wiencek scored early in the game at 1:46, with Raymond Fleming lighting the lamp on a power play three minutes later at 4:36. Hayden Givens added another goal in the period, scoring in front of the net at 15:58.
Twenty-seven seconds into the second period, Tom Ignatovich recorded the team’s fourth goal of the night on assists from Jonathan Banovetz and Wiencek.
At 4:51 in the same period, Eugene native Jack Thornton scored the Generals’ first goal of the evening to trim their deficit to 4-1. Baxter Cox and Dustin Gomez each had assists on the play.
Wenatchee would score the next two goals of the game, one at 8:12 of the second period and the other at 3:58 of the third period. Banovetz tallied the goal in the midway through the second frame, while Will Connors scored early in the third period on the power play.
With less than two minutes left in the game, Cole Bloemer had the final goal of the game, coming on a shorthanded breakaway. His goal, also unassisted, came at the 18:11 mark.
Generals goalie Chris Pritchard faced a whopping 59 shots from Wenatchee, 23 in the first period alone. His 53 saves was the second-most he has recorded in a game this season.
The Generals close out the 2015-16 regular season next weekend in Wenatchee for a two-game series against the Wolves. Both teams square off on March 5th at 4:35, and March 6th at 2:35.
