During Saturday’s game against the Seattle Ravens, the Generals will donate $2 for every ticket sold to the March of Dimes Foundation. March of Dimes is a nonprofit organization which aims to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects and fighting premature birth.
High Heels for High Hopes is a fashion runway show presented by March of Dimes, with the goal of raising $75,000 for the foundation. The High Heels for High Hopes event takes place in a few weeks on Wednesday, February 24th at Kendall Toyota in Eugene.
In addition to donating $2 for every ticket sold on Saturday, there are even more ways for fans to raise money for this great cause. During Chuck-a-Puck on Saturday, the Generals and March of Dimes have teamed up for the second intermission activity, with half of the proceeds going towards the foundation.
The Generals are very excited to host this special event, thanks in large part to the generosity of Tab Davis, the Community Director for March of Dimes for over four years. Also a Marketing Consultant at Bicoastal Media, Tab’s passion is for a strong and vibrant community, one in which she grew up in.
While she experienced three full term pregnancies with little more than minor complications, working towards a day when all babies are born healthy is always on Tab’s mind. Her extended family has been touched by infant loss and pre-term birth—experiences she says “change the course of life.” As Community Director of the foundation, Tab became intimately aware of the Mission of March of Dimes and the impact it has on each of our lives. Her hope is that “no parent would have to suffer the loss of a child, nor the heartache of watching their pre-term baby fight to stay alive.”
Generals Owner Ken Evans acknowledges the importance of being involved with organizations and foundations such as March of Dimes. Along with providing perspective to the players, March of Dimes is a foundation which has a special place in his heart.
“This eleventh season of the Eugene Generals has seen a renewed emphasis on obtaining skilled players of character that not only desire to excel in hockey, but to broaden their perspectives on matters that help them grow and continue to build character for a life extending beyond hockey.
“The March of Dimes was an organization I participated in growing up, where we collected actual dimes to be placed in insert cards,” he added. “My mother was a March of Dimes supporter. To contribute to the continued improvement in programs that work to reduce or eliminate birth defects or premature births of babies in a way that, hopefully, one day will allow them to participate fully in life and, with luck, play hockey.”
Tickets for Saturday’s game at 7:35 PM are available online at eugenegenerals.com. Fans can also purchase tickets by calling the Generals' ticket office at 541-359-4154.
