Eugene, OR. -Jason Smith has been relieved as Head Coach of the Eugene Generals, as announced by General Manager Flint Doungchak on Monday afternoon.
Doungchak has named assistant coach Justin Kern as Interim Head Coach.
“Making a coaching change is never easy, particularly a mid-season coaching change, but this was a decision that we felt was necessary, both in terms of developing our players and increasing our results on the ice.”
Doungchak also announced that a coaching search has immediately gotten underway, with Kern among those being considered.
“The Generals have made the postseason in every one of our previous nine years in existence,” added Doungchak, “but it’s the development of our players off the ice that we have always been proud of; that’s what truly sets us apart from other franchises in the Northwest and across junior hockey as a whole. Unfortunately, we as an organization felt that our standards on and off the ice were not being met, and therefore we made the decision to make a coaching change.”
The Eugene Generals would like to thank Jason Smith for his time and dedication to the team, and we wish him the very best as he moves forward in his coaching career.
