Eugene, OR -The Eugene Generals have begun their preparations for the upcoming 2013-14 year, the team’s ninth season.
Planet Hockey's Shawn Killian teaches the team some skating drills.
Over the past week, the team has started working out together and practicing on the ice. Shawn Killian of Planet Hockey recently came to Eugene and showed the Generals’ players some skating techniques.
This week, the team has taken training to a new level of intensity with its “three-a-days” schedule. In the morning, the players show up for a demanding practice on the ice with another one taking place in the evening. During the afternoon and in between the ice practices, the Generals partake in intense workouts known as “dry lands.”
The three-a-day practices are a sign that the season is closer to starting. In order to prepare, the team needs the on-ice practices to simulate game situations while the off-ice workouts help the players develop the necessary strength and cardio for the games.
GM Flint Doungchak gives the players workout instructions.
In addition to the practices and workouts, the Generals will play in two exhibition games this upcoming weekend in Eugene. The Generals will be hosting the Bellingham Blazers on Saturday and Sunday, marking the first time the teams will meet since the first round of last year’s playoffs.
Both games will be played in Eugene at the Rink Exchange. Fans are encouraged to cheer on the new-look Generals and can come watch for free.
The Generals enter the season with high expectations, and hope to build on last season’s 25-14-1 record and second-place finish.
