EUGENE, Ore. - When the Eugene Generals take the ice this Saturday, December 14th at 3:35 PM, they will be trying to stop a West Sound Warriors squad who will be fighting to regain first place on the ice.
That is not the only event happening on the ice on Saturday.
The Generals will be having their Second Annual Teddy Bear Toss this Saturday to benefit the children at the Pediatric and Adolescent Unit at Sacred Heart Medical Center at Riverbend.
Fans who bring in a teddy bear or stuffed animal will receive free admission to Saturday’s game. There will also be teddy bears at the front door that can be bought for $10, which also includes a game ticket.
The throwing of the teddy bears will happen right after the first period, during the first intermission. All teddy bears and stuffed animals will then be donated to the sick children at the aforementioned Pediatric Unit.
Two weeks ago, the Generals players, with the help of Pediatric Unit Coordinator Theresa McCormick, assembled 38 toy donation boxes for the toy drive, six more than last year. The donation bins were then delivered to other businesses in the Eugene and Springfield area that requested to be involved in the holiday toy drive. These toy bins are being used to collect toys from around the area to be given to the children at Sacred Heart.
There will be a toy bin near the ticket office as part of the Rink Exchange’s participation in the Toy Drive for the Pediatric Unit at Sacred Heart Medical Center. Fans can bring in any new toys suitable for children, such as games, action figures, books, etc.
Last year was the first time the Generals had the Teddy Bear Toss. In all, 138 teddy bears and stuffed animals were tossed onto the ice and donated to the Pediatric Unit. The Generals hope to top that mark from that season with more stuffed animals and teddy bears on the ice.
After the game, the Eugene Figure Skating Club will be having their “Music On Ice” show at 7:30. Fans are encouraged to stick around and watch the figure skaters perform.
