Weekend Preview: Three road games in three days

EUGENE, Ore. - The Eugene Generals (11-15-1) will play three games on the road this weekend, two against the Vancouver Vipers (0-28-0) and one versus the Tri-Cities Outlaws (13-16-1).

The Generals entered last weekend’s games on a five-game winning streak before losing two to the first place Bellingham Blazers. Both games resulted in 4-1 and 3-0 losses for the Generals with Dans Berzanskis scoring the only goal during the two contests. Generals Goalie Cody Foster had a save percentage of 91.8% during the weekend, saving a total of 67 shots out of a possible 73.

This Thursday and Saturday, the Generals will travel to Vancouver to play the Vipers. The last time the two teams played was January 7th, where the Generals won 13-4. Down 2-0 at one point, the Generals took control of the game by scoring an incredible ten goals in the second period. Hunter Hartman recorded eight points during the game, one point short of the franchise record for points in a game. Berzanskis also had a hat trick while Evan Carter tallied five assists.

Back on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day, the Generals hosted the Outlaws for a pair of games. The Generals won the first game 2-1, with Hartman and Matt Walton scoring both goals. On New Year’s Day, the Generals played one of their best games of the season, defeating the Outlaws 6-0. Foster recorded his third shutout of the season while Berzanskis and Connor Hoernlein each had two goals. The Generals also took advantage of their power play opportunities, scoring three times on seven power plays.

After playing their previous five games at home, the Generals begin their seven-game road trip this weekend by travelling to Vancouver on Thursday, Kennewick on Friday, and back to Vancouver on Saturday. The Generals will then play two games apiece on the road against the West Sound Warriors and Bellingham Blazers. The seven consecutive games on the road will be the last away games for the Generals during the regular season.

Last Friday, the Outlaws and Vipers squared off against one another in Kennewick. Tied at one after the first period, the Outlaws scored the remaining six goals to defeat Vancouver 7-1. Aaron Questad of Tri-Cities had a hat trick and even recorded two assists for a total of five points.

In seven regular season meetings thus far, the Generals have a 4-2-1 record over the Outlaws. Six of those games were decided by less than two goals while two had to be decided in overtime. Friday’s meeting will be the last regular season game for the Generals on the Outlaws’ home ice; the Generals will host the Outlaws in Eugene for their final two regular season contests.

The Generals will play their next home game on February 4th at 7:35 against the Vipers. The game will be the team’s second 2 for 1 Tuesday of the season, with fans being able to purchase two tickets for the price of one regular ticket.
