Weekend Preview: Can Generals defend home ice?

EUGENE, Ore. - The Eugene Generals (4-2-1) will be defending home ice at the Lane County Ice Arena twice this week when they take on the Glacier Nationals (3-2-0) Friday and Saturday.

This weekend will be the first time these two teams have met this season.

Friday night at the rink will be Free Poster Night, where fans will receive a free Generals poster to have signed by the team after the game. Saturday night will be the first of three Scout Nights With The Generals this season, where local Boy and Girl Scouts from around Lane County have been invited to come enjoy a Generals hockey game. After the game on Saturday, fans will have the chance to have memorabilia signed and have the opportunity to skate with the team.

Over the course of the last five games, the Generals have had five players average more than one point a game. This group of players is spearheaded by Connor Bambico, 12 points (four goals, eight assists), who left last Saturday’s game with an undisclosed upper body injury. Bambico’s absence could be missed on the blue line, and in the Generals offensive production. However, Zak Johnson, Hunter Hartman, Matthew Walton, and Cody Andersen are each on the list of players who have had hot hands, and are averaging more than one point over each of the last five games.

The Nationals only have three players on their 25 man roster that are averaging more than one point in each of their last five games this season. This list includes Paul Kinder, Austin Givens, and Kyle Watne.

The Nationals have had above average goaltending from Evan Jamar, who has pitched a shutout in only two starts this season. Jamar is allowing an impressive .5 goals into the net, and has a 93.8 save percentage thus far into the season.

If the Nationals can find a way to win each game this weekend, they will leapfrog the Generals in the standings.

Every game counts in the Northern Pacific Hockey League, and expect each team to step on to the ice eager to find the back of the net.

The puck hits the ice at 7:35 p.m. at the Lane County Ice Arena this Friday and Saturday. If you are out of town, or simply cannot make it to the game, you may enjoy the Generals complimentary broadcast on EGHN hosted by Alex Stimson. Coverage of EGHN will begin approximately 15 minutes before the start of the game.
