Generals Stumble Short of Victory

EUGENE, Ore. -The Eugene Generals (15-12-0) surrendered their first loss to the Vancouver Victory (16-15-2), since their first contest of the season, in a 6-4 Vancouver win.
The Victory uprooted the Generals by scoring three goals in the third period; taking away the Generals’ lead and earning the Victory two points in the standings.
Coming off of the momentum from the Generals 5-1 victory the night before, Cody Andersen wasted no time to get the Generals on the scoreboard. Waiting 1:31 into the first period, Andersen scored an unassisted goal to put his team up by one goal.
Vancouver evened the score to 1-1 when Will Millspaugh scored 9:42 into the first period. Millspaugh was assisted by Jordan Tuttle and Kai Farmer.
Generals defenseman Peter Martin gave his team a go-ahead goal on a power play opportunity seconds before the period expired. Connor Bambico assisted Martin’s goal at 19:32 of the first period.
In the second period, the Victory scored two goals to take the lead, but the Generals, determined to keep it a close game, tied the game in the tail-end of the period.
The Victory received their second, tying goal of the game from Cam Calloway at 8:35 of the second period. Calloway’s goal was assisted by teammates Jack Petrino and Kade King.
Petrino put his team in the lead for the first time of the game by scoring on Generals goaltender Brad Robertson 11:08 into the second period. Petrino was assisted by Joe Hover.
David Bechard kept the Generals in the game by scoring a power play goal. Bechard’s powe rplay goal was assisted by Tony Vargas and Justin Huelsman 13:37 into the second period.
The Generals came out of the locker room in the third period hungry for more goals, but by the end of the period it was apparent that the Victory had the larger appetite tonight.
Generals forward Randy Ludwig wasted no time showing the puck the back of the net. Ludwig scored 0:46 into the third period and was assisted by Christian Merritt and Aaron Ward.
The Generals did an amazing job, until the third period, playing defense on the Victory’s Bordak brothers. After Ludwig's goal, the Bordaks let the Generals feel their presence on the scoreboard.
Joe Bordak tied the game 3:57 into the third period after being assisted by Sam Petrino.
Avik Bordak scored two goals, including the game winner, in the third period. A. Bordak was assisted by Brandon Edson 17:12 into the third period on his first goal. A. Bordak was unassisted when he scored the game’s final goal at 19:50 of the third period.
The Generals lost tonight’s contest 6-4 to the Victory and will return home tomorrow.
Following tonight’s game, the Generals will embark on a three game road trip to Yellowstone, Wyo. that will take place Jan. 19-21.
