Generals Prevent the Sweep

EUGENE, Ore. -- The Eugene General (16-12-2) dominated the Yellowstone Quake (18-14-2) in a 5-2 victory.

The Generals outshot the Quake 58-27, and did not allow more than 10 shots against in a single period tonight.

Yellowstone started the scoring late into the first period with a power play goal by Drew Parus 16:21 into the first period.

Generals forward Joe Edwards got Eugene back into the game by scoring a goal at 17:44 of the first period.

In the second period, the Generals increased their lead by two goals.

Team Captain Christian Merritt wasted no time to score. Merritt riffled the puck into the back of the net on a power play at 0:27 into the second period.

Defenseman Connor Bambico scored the Generals second goal of the period at 7:06.

In the third period, the Generals increased their lead to four goals before the Quake were able to register another point on the stat sheet.

Kirby Carlson followed Merritt's example set in the second period, by wasting no time to start the period off with a goal. Carlson's goal came 0:49 into the third period.

Merritt earned his second power play goal of the night at 9:26 into the period. Merritt's goal was the Generals final goal of the evening.

At 11:12 into the third period, Quake forward Zachary Tuchklaper scored his team's final goal.

The Generals will come back to Eugene 1-0-2 from their outings with Yellowstone, and earned themselves four points in the standings.
