The Eugene Generals travel to Washington to open the 2010/2011 season Friday September 24th against the Puget Sound Tomahawks. The Generals finish the weekend on Saturday against the Seattle Totems and on Sunday against the Tomahawks.
"I know the boys are really excited to get on the road and start playing. This organization has went through some hardships this summer so to finally get the season started is very exciting," Assistant Coach Brent Seidel said. "Puget is a brand new team along with a new coach so it will be good to see what they have put together."
The Generals were 9-0 against the Tomahawks last season, holding them to one goal or less in five of the nine games. Brad Main, Christian Merritt and Ryan McDonald all had 10 points against the Tomahawks. The Generals were 13 of 48 for a 27.1% power play with four shorthanded goals against the Tomahawks. Puget Sound was 6 of 56 for a 10.7% power play with zero shorthanded goals against the Generals.
The Generals lost the season series to the Totems 4-5 last season and were swept in the Pacific Division Finals. Seattle scored first in 42 of 48 regular season games last season and had a 37-5 record when they scored first. Ryan McDonald led the Generals with 16 points against the Totems a year ago, and Brad Main led the team with five goals. The Generals five road loses was the fewest amount of loses the Generals have had in its history. The 13 returning Generals' players will have a chance to play the Totems for the first time since the team was swept in the playoffs.
"I know the returning players have been really excited to play Seattle after the way the Totems ended their season last year," Coach Seidel stated.
