John Strong, the “Voice of the Generals” for the past two seasons, has decided to hang up his mic and Executive Producer position to continue his sports broadcasting career with News Radio 750 KXL as a Sports Broadcaster/Producer. Strong has been with the Generals from the beginning, and made Generals internet TV (GiTV) into the successful broadcast that it is today. Under Strong, GiTV has had over 36,000 listeners over the past two seasons.
“The last two years have been not only a very important time in the advancement of my career, but they also provided some amazing experiences and memories,” Strong stated in his letter of resignation. “I never thought I’d be a hockey broadcaster, least of all do it while still in college. I don’t know when I’ll get the chance to call hockey games again, but my time with the Generals has left me excited for my next opportunity in this sport that I have grown to love.”
Strong also stated, “I would like to thank all of the people who have listened to or watched our broadcasts these past two years, both for their support of this endeavor and their patience as we all figured out how to do it. To the parents and family members of the Generals, I have very much enjoyed meeting you all; it was your constant appreciation and thanks (as well as the excellent food from some of you) that kept us all motivated to put out the best product we could.”
Strong will be replaced by GiTV Director Daniel Bell. Bell is graduating from the University of Oregon in June with a BS in Journalism and a concentration in Electronic Media. Bell is being promoted to the Executive Producer and play-by-play announcer for the upcoming 2007-08 season. Bell will be announcing his staff in June.
“I’m extremely excited to be taking the reigns of GiTV,” Bell stated. “I know I have some pretty big shoes to fill, but I’m confident that GiTV will remain to be one of the leading broadcasts in Junior hockey.”
