Generals Visit Ronald McDonald House®

Portland, OR – Eight Eugene Generals players visited the East Ronald McDonald House® (RMH®) in Portland, OR on Monday, October 22. The Generals cooked lunch for RMH® residents as well as cleaned the grounds. Ronald McDonald House Charities® (RMHC®) of Oregon and Southwest Washington is an official sponsor of the Eugene Generals, and they are the Title Sponsor of the 2nd Annual Eugene Generals Fan Appreciation Night presented by Ronald McDonald House Charities® of Oregon and Southwest Washington on Saturday, February 23, 2008.

“On behalf of all of our families, we wish to thank the Eugene Generals for generously volunteering their time and energy. Their support of the Ronald McDonald House ensures that Lane County families will have a “home away from home” while their seriously ill or injured children receive medical care at Portland hospitals,” Marketing and Communications Manager of Ronald McDonald House Charities® of Oregon and Southwest Washington Robyn Chastain stated.

The Generals will auction off their home jerseys on eBay prior to Fan Appreciation Night, and the proceeds will benefit RMHC® of Oregon and Southwest Washington to provide a “home away from home” for families and their seriously ill or injured children who travel far to receive treatment at Portland Hospitals.

Ronald McDonald House Charities® of Oregon and Southwest Washington provides a “home away from home” for families and their seriously ill or injured children who travel far to receive medical treatment. Portland’s two Houses provide a setting in which families connect with other families, and children can meet other children going through a similar experience. During their visit, guests stay in comfortable and livingly decorated private rooms where they can get a peaceful night’s rest, knowing their child is close by.

“We believe that Ronald McDonald House Charities® of Oregon and Southwest Washington is a great cause, and not enough people around Lane County know about great things they do for their residents,” Generals GM Flint Doungchak stated. “We’re happy that we were able to go up to Portland to help out a little, but there is so much more that can be done. I also think it is great that we could teach our players about the importance of being stewards of the community, while helping a great cause.”

Ronald McDonald House Charities® of Oregon and Southwest Washington provided 9,749 room nights for families in 2006 alone. Because people who stay at the RMH® have to live over 50 miles away to be able to use the facility, 718 of the room nights used last year were residents of Lane County (second largest behind Jackson County). Lane County families have stayed more than 1,000 nights at Portland’s two RMH® this year, which makes Lane County the largest user in Oregon. The visit also hit home for the six native Alaskans who made the trip to RMH® , as 490 of the room nights used in 2006 were from Alaskans.
