The Eugene Generals (17-6) will have their first test in the grueling month of December when they travel to Pasco, WA to face the Tri-City Titans (17-8) on Friday and Saturday. After the Generals battle the Titans for sole possession of second place in the Pacific Division they will hop on a bus back to Eugene for a Sunday match-up with the Coeur d’Alene Lakers (3-22). The Generals will also face the first place Seattle Totems and the fourth place River City Jaguars in December.
“We have a tough month ahead of us,” Generals Head Coach Chris Hartly stated. “We have a short bench, and every player who will be on the ice for us this month will have to step up and play great, mistake free hockey. We just have to take one game at a time, and make sure we keep plugging away.”
The Generals do have a shorter than normal bench. Five players who regularly suit up for the games will not see action this weekend. George Arroyo and Brendan Elkins have been dismissed from the team for violation of team rules, Brian Kneaper and Ben Wilks are both sidelined with upper body injuries, and Steven Slattery is out with a broken wrist. The Generals who are still in the lineup will have to do exactly what Coach Hartly wants them to do. They will have to play great, mistake free hockey.
The Generals are currently 2-1 against the Titans this season, but lost their only match-up with Tri-City in Pasco. The Generals will have to do one thing if they want to escape Pasco with two wins. They must stop the line of Jared Darby, Damon Hollandsworth and Brandon Turley. Darby, Hollandsworth and Turley have combined for 85 points since the Generals swept the Titans in Eugene eleven games ago. If the Generals can shut those three players down they will have a great opportunity to walk away with sole possession of second place. The team must be ready to play on Sunday, however, as Coeur d’Alene has been itching to get a win against the Generals.
The games against Tri-City in Pasco, WA this Friday and Saturday at 7:00 PM will be broadcast on GiTV in audio only. The game against Coeur d’Alene at Lane Events Center-Ice this Sunday at 4:05 PM will be broadcast on GiTV. For more information on upcoming games or GiTV please visit eugenegenerals.com.
