Eugene Generals starting goaltender Dylan Woodring will be playing his last two games for the Generals this weekend against the River City Jaguars. Woodring was called up by the Alexandria Blizzard of the Tier-II Junior A North American Hockey League (NAHL), and will be departing from Eugene on Christmas day.
“”This really is a great opportunity for Dylan,” Generals Head Coach Chris Hartly stated. “We were surprised to even have him back this year to begin with; he worked extremely hard during the off-season and did well at several training camps this summer. When those chances didn’t work out well for him he came back here and continued his hard work, and I think that his numbers this year really show that. As long as Dylan keeps that up I’m sure that he will have success at the next level.”
Alexandria is last in the NAHL Central Division and trail their closest competitor by six points. Alexandria is also last in the NAHL in team save percentage with .862. The two Alexandria goaltenders that are currently rostered have save percentages (SV%) below .875, and have goals against averages (GAA) of over 4.10.
“We’re bringing Dylan in because we were looking to improve our situation in goal,” Blizzard GM and Head Coach Brad Willner stated. “We’ve heard good things about him, and we want to give him a chance to prove it at this level. We’re looking for him to come in and play his game. We want him make the stops he should make, and steal a couple of shots here and there. Most of all we want him to play consistently. ”
Willner will get what he wants from Woodring if the newly acquired goaltender is able to have comparable numbers for the Blizzard as he is putting up for the Generals. Woodring is currently seventh among NORPAC goaltenders with a 2.99 GAA. Dylan is third in the NORPAC standings with a .926 SV%, and he is also third in NORPAC with 14 wins on the season. Woodring also has one shutout on the season, which is one more than any Alexandria goaltender.
