Eugene, OR – The Eugene Generals (21-9) had an all-time record of 15-2 against the River City Jaguars (21-10) before the 2007-08 season. The Jaguars proved they were a different team this season, and they were able to defeat the Generals in their first three meetings this season. The Generals were able to turn it around tonight, and earned a 4-3 victory over the Jaguars tonight at Lane Events Center-Ice in their last game of 2007.
The Generals were trailing 2-3 with a little over three minutes to play in the contest, but a Michael Frei shot slid between Jaguars goaltender Jared Secondo’s legs to tie the game at three. Trent McKee was able to seal the game for the Generals with a slap shot from the point with less than two to play in the game.
“It was good to see the guys work so hard for the win tonight,” Generals Head Coach Chris Hartly stated. “We were a little short benched tonight, but the players overcame that and a few penalty kills. Even when we were behind in the game all our boys just continued to work hard.”
Trent McKee was the star of the game for the Generals. Along with his game winning goal, McKee added the Generals second goal of the game. CJ Henley continued the defensive scoring with a goal and two assists to lead all Generals with three points. Michael Frei added a goal and an assist, and Justin Adams had three assists. Kevin Aslett got the win in net for the Generals stopping 29 of 32 shots on net.
The hard fought game was overshadowed by a brawl after the final whistle. When all was said and done, 112 penalty minutes were assessed after the whistle including eight game misconduct penalties. The Generals and Jaguars combined for 199 penalty minutes in the game, and more could be assessed when the league reviews the game film.
The Generals will get a little break for the holidays, but will be back in action January 4-5 against the Rogue Valley Wranglers in Medford, OR at 7:00 PM. The games will be broadcast in audio only on GiTV. For more information on upcoming games or GiTV please visit eugenegenerals.com.
