The Eugene Generals (26-9) swept the Rogue Valley Wranglers (2-35) in their eight game season series. The sweep is the Generals second season series sweep of the season – the first was against the Coeur d’Alene Lakers – and moved the Generals to within two points of a tie for second in the NORPAC Pacific Division. The Generals do have a game in hand over the second place Tri-City Titans, but the Titans hold the tie-breaker (Titans lead series 3-2) as of now.
The Generals defeated the Wranglers 5-2 in their final meeting of the season, and did so without their three leading scorers (Justin Adams, Tyler Tymchuk and Michael Frei). The Generals were able to get production from nine different players in the game. Kyle Mills, CJ Henley, Duston Fender and Steven Slattery each had a goal and an assist in the contest. Ben Wilks was able to tally a goal, and Trent McKee, Ian Evans, Erik Brody and Nate Schursky each had an assist. Nolan Ohmart also had a great game, and was able to stop 46 of the Wranglers 48 shots on net.
“This was a game that we challenged our role players,” Generals Head Coach Chris Hartly stated. “It was the first time this season when our three leading scorers have been out of the game at the same time, and they were able to come away with a win. There were some mistakes with execution, but that can be expected. Overall I was happy with their effort, but I still think we can get a lot more out of our guys.”
The Generals will now face the Puget Sound Tomahawks tomorrow and Saturday in Eugene. The Generals are currently 5-1 against the Tomahawks this season, but five of the six games have been decided by two goals or fewer. With two wins this weekend against the Tomahawks, the Generals can all but eliminate them from the playoffs. The Generals rivalry with the Tomahawks has been raging for three seasons, and there appears to be no end in sight.
The games against the Puget Sound Tomahawks this Friday and Saturday in Eugene at 7:35 PM will be available on GiTV. For more information on upcoming games or GiTV please visit eugenegenerals.com.
