A Little Redemption after Unprecedented Streak
The Eugene Generals (4-4) were finally able to end their unprecedented four game losing streak against the Puget Sound Tomahawks (6-2) last night in Bremerton, WA. The Generals lost their fourth game in a row on Saturday night in overtime after some incredible heroics were able to give the team a shot at their first overtime game of the season. The Generals were able to shake off that potential series draining game, and come back with an 8-1 shellacking of the Tomahawks. The four game skid marked the first time in franchise history that the Generals had lost four games in a row, and it was also the first time in franchise history that the Generals record fell below .500.
“We played our style of hockey last night,” Generals Head Coach Chris Hartly stated. “We’ve been working really hard over the last few games and it finally all game together. We were more relaxed and just had fun out there. When we relax, and can put some plays together, we are a very dangerous team.”
Steven Slattery came away with the weekend with three goals. Slattery was almost the hero on Friday night when he scored with 5.6 seconds left in the game to knot the score at 3 a piece. But, the Generals took a penalty two minutes into the overtime, and the Tomahawks were able to capitalize. Slattery had amazing feat last night, scoring two goals just nine seconds apart in the third period. Slattery scored his first of the period just 22 seconds in, and only nine seconds later Justin Adams assisted Slattery for his second goal of the night and his third of the weekend.
Ben Tikka also had a big weekend for the Generals. Tikka had one assist on Friday night, and was able to log three more on Saturday. The four points on the weekend gave him a total of twelve on the season, which puts him at the top of the league in points for a defenseman. Tikka is now tied with Michael Frei for the most points on the Generals roster.
