Eugene, OR – The Eugene Generals (6-4) defeated the Tri-City Titans (3-8) 5-2 tonight at Lane Events Center-Ice. The Generals fell behind 0-2 early, but were able to answer with five unanswered goals. The Generals killed off 11 penalties in the game, and Generals goalie Nick Maynes was able to shake off the two early goals and save 46 of the Titans 48 shots.
“We played a solid game tonight,” Generals Head Coach Chris Hartly stated. “The guys were working hard the whole time, and we just had to make small corrections throughout the course of the game. We have great character on this team. After going down by two our boys battled back, and never gave up. We had to battle back a lot last year, and its good to see it happen tonight.”
The Generals scoring started 12:20 into the game when Carrick Cristiano and Tyler Tymchuk assisted Larry Dankenbring to get the Generals within one of the Titans. The Generals were able to tie the game a minute later when Matt Vasilie scored on the Generals first power play of the game. That wasn’t enough for the Generals, however, as Larry Dankenbring got his second of the game with 1:25 left in the period. Both teams battled hard in the second, but nobody could get one in the net. The Generals were finally able to extend their lead 2:32 into the third when Desi Ritari and Ben Tikka assisted Alex Ironside. Michael Frei added the final nail in the Titans coffin when he recorded his sixth goal of the season, and his team leading fifteenth point of the season, with :13 seconds left in the game.
The Generals will be hosting the Puget Sound Tomahawks at 5:15 on Monday at Lane Events Center-Ice in their first Monday game in franchise history. The game against the Tomahawks will be broadcast on GiTV. For more information on upcoming games or GiTV please visit www.eugenegenerals.com.
