Eugene, OR – The Eugene Generals (11-10) fell to the Tri-City Titans (9-13) tonight 4-3 in overtime at Lane Events Center-Ice. This was the second game in the row that the Generals were defeated by the Titans. This makes the Generals 2-4 in overtime games this season, and puts the Generals at 2-7 in one goal games. The Titans have now won six in a row, and are one of the hottest teams in NOR PAC.
“We just couldn’t get the puck in the net tonight,” Generals Head Coach Chris Hartly stated. “We had plenty of opportunities tonight, and we were working hard the entire night. We have to find a way to win close games, and be able to put games away in the third period.”
The Titans were able to come away with the first goal of the evening, but Ben Tikka answered at 9:07 in the first period with a powerplay goal that was assisted by Ryan Schank and Trent McKee. The Generals were able to get one more in the first when Garrett Bossert assisted Lucas Romero at 17:47 into the first to make it a one goal Generals lead.
There was only one goal in the second period, and that belonged to the Titans. Logan Bloom was assisted by Kevin Johnson and Josh Heinen on the powerplay to knot the game at two. The Generals were able to go up yet again at 12:56 into the third, and it looked like they would stay up for good. That was not the case, however, as Tri-City was able to put one in with a little more than three minutes left to play. As the clock was winding down in the third period the Generals took a penalty, and gave the Titans a man advantage for the final eighteen seconds and the first 1:42 of overtime. That was all the Titans needed, as they dominated the overtime period and scored 1:02 into the period.
The Generals will host the second place Seattle Totems next Friday and Saturday at 7:35 at Lane Events Center-Ice, and will host the River City Jaguars on Sunday at 5:00 for the Eugene Generals University of Oregon Greek Night. All three games will be broadcast on GiTV. For more information on upcoming games, special event nights, or GiTV please visit eugenegenerals.com.
