First Shut Out of Season for Generals

Eugene, OR – The Eugene Generals (12-10) shut out the Seattle Totems (15-8) 6-0 tonight at Lane Events Center-Ice. Generals goaltender Dylan Woodring denied the Totems on 46 shots to give the Generals a huge victory, and their first shut out of the season. This game marked the end of the first half of the season, and with the Generals trailing the Totems by six points, this was an excellent way to go into the second half. The Generals dominated much of the game, and were able to keep their cool when the Totems lost theirs mid way through the third period.

“I’m excited and happy with how the guys played all 60 minutes tonight,” Generals Head Coach Chris Hartly stated after the game. “I think it was a real eye opener for the guys to know that when they show up to a game focused they can play great hockey. Now it’s just a matter of whether or not they can show up like that in every game.”

The first period was a defensive battle for both teams, but the Generals were able to put one past the Totems goalie 12:23 into the contest. Trent McKee and Michael Frei assisted Matt Vasilie for a powerplay goal, which is something the Generals have struggled with this season.

The Generals were able to break through a little more in the second period. They were able to get on the board for the second time of the night when Michael Frei and Kevin Crawford assisted Ben Tikka for a rocket from the blue line. The Generals got their third of the night from Carrick Cristiano who was assisted Generals Captain Ryan Schank.

The third period belonged to the Generals as they controlled play and put up three goals. The first goal of the third period, and fourth of the game, was scored by Lucas Romero and was assisted by Steven Slattery. The Generals fifth goal was scored by Ryan Schank on the powerplay, and was assisted by Ben Tikka and Trent McKee. For the sixth goal of the game, Michael Frei assisted Lucas Romero, on the powerplay, for his second goal of the game.

The Generals will face the Totems again tomorrow night at 7:35, and will host the River City Jaguars at 5:00 on Sunday for Greek Night. Both games will be broadcasted on GiTV. For more information on upcoming games, special event nights, and GiTV please visit eugenegenerals.com.
