Generals Sweep Titans
Eugene, OR – The Eugene Generals (13-10) came from a 2-0 deficit early in the first period to beat the Seattle Totems (15-9) tonight 5-4 at Lane Events Center-Ice. The Generals defeated the Totems 6-0 last night, and the victory tonight gave the Generals their first weekend sweep over Seattle this season. The Generals will face the River City Jaguars tomorrow at 5:00 to try to make it a perfect 3-0 on the weekend, and move to within two points of the Totems for second place in the NOR PAC Pacific Division.
“We played a good 2/3’s of the game, and were fortunate enough that that was enough for the win tonight,” Generals Head Coach Chris Hartly stated. “We still need to learn to come out every night and play our game from the first drop of the puck.”
The Generals started the comeback when Matt Vasilie stuffed the puck into the net on a rebound. The Generals were able knot the game at two when Michael Frei and Lucas Romero assisted Garrett Bossert for his fifth powerplay goal on the season. Seattle was able to get one more in the first, and led the Generals 3-2 heading into the second period.
The second period was all Generals, however, as they controlled play, and took control of the game. Generals goaltender assisted Ben Tikka 5:46 into the period on the powerplay to tie the game for the second time of the contest. The Generals moved into the lead when Carrick Cristiano fed Ryan Schank at the far blue line, Schank then moved the puck down to the hash marks, and fed a wide open Justin Adams for the easy goal. The Generals made it a two goal game in the third when Schank was able to get one of his own on a shorthanded opportunity. The Totems were able to get one with 45 seconds left, but didn’t have enough to send it to overtime.
The Generals will face the River City Jaguars tomorrow at 5:00 at Lane Events Center-Ice for Greek Night. The game will be broadcast on GiTV. For more information on upcoming games, special events, or GiTV please visit eugenegenerals.com.
