Generals Host Puget Sound for Bi-Mart 2-for-1 Night
The Eugene Generals (16-12) will host the Puget Sound Tomahawks (12-16) this Friday and Saturday at Lane Events Center-Ice for their last home stand of 2006. Friday’s game is Bi-Mart 2-for-1 Night, and anybody who shows their Bi-Mart card when purchasing a ticket will be given a ticket for free (of equal or lesser value to the purchased ticket). The Generals are coming off a weekend where they saw their five game winning streak come to an end at the hands of the Fort Vancouver Pioneers, while the Tomahawks enter the weekend with a two game winning streak.
“This is a statement weekend for us,” Generals Head Coach Chris Hartly stated. “We beat the Tomahawks on a penalty shot in the second overtime the last time we faced them, and we need to make sure we don’t have to win that way this weekend. Our guys need to stay focused and play a full sixty minutes of hockey. If we do that, we can play with any team in the league.”
This weekend’s games have the top four teams in the Pacific Division playing each other, and significant statistical changes could be made. Although no team in the top four could jump up a spot, it could make the races very tight going into the Christmas break. The Generals trail the Seattle Totems (19-9) by six points, and the Totems are faced with the task of hosting the red hot Fort Vancouver Pioneers (12 game winning streak) this weekend. If Fort Vancouver tallies two wins against the Totems, and the Generals can get two from the Tomahawks, it will move the Generals to within two points of second place in the Pacific Division. The Tomahawks, on the other hand, sit only two points above the Tri-City Titans, who face the hapless River City Jaguars.
The Generals are currently 4-2 in their season series with the tomahawks, but struggled the last time they faced them. The Generals were defeated by Puget Sound 8-6 in the first game of their last series against them, and, as Coach Hartly stated, it took a penalty shot by Garrett Bossert to beat the Tomahawks in double overtime in the second game of the series. Both games this weekend should be great to watch, however, as the Generals continue their rivalry with the Tomahawks.
The Generals games against the Tomahawks this Friday and Saturday will be at Lane Events Center-Ice at 7:35. Friday’s game is Bi-Mart 2-for-1 Night. Both games will be broadcast on GiTV. For more information on upcoming games, special event nights, or GiTV please visit eugenegenerals.com.
