Eugene, OR – The Eugene Generals (21-16) were defeated by the Fort Vancouver Pioneers (30-5) 10-3 tonight at Lane Events Center-Ice. The Generals were able to keep it close in the first period, but the Pioneers took control in the second and the only time the Pioneers looked back was to ceaselessly taunt the Generals fans, players and coaches.
“We had a meltdown in the second period,” Generals Head Coach Chris Hartly stated. “If you take out about nine minutes of the game in the second period we played pretty well. At least we know that we left the game with our dignity still in hand, which is something I can’t say the Pioneers were able to do.”
The Generals started the scoring in the first period when Ryan Schank was assisted by Matt Vasilie and Steven Slattery. Fort Vancouver was able to get one in the first, and the period ended with a 1-1 tie. That could not be said for the second period, however, as the Pioneers scored eight in the period to make it an unreachable deficit. The Generals did have a couple bright moments in the second, however, as Steven Slattery netted two goals and Justin Adams assisted on both. Desi Ritari and Troy Mytinger were also able to add an assist each.
The Generals will travel to Seattle, WA next Friday to face the Seattle Totems. The games are at 8:00 PM on Friday, and 7:00 PM on Saturday. Both games will be broadcast on GiTV in audio only. For more information on upcoming games or GiTV please visit eugenegenerals.com.
