Three is a Magic Number
The Eugene Generals (23-18) will travel to Pasco, WA tomorrow to face the Tri-City Titans (17-25) for the final two Generals road games of the 2006-07 regular season. The Generals have only three games remaining in the regular season, and hope to break the 3-3 season series tie with the Titans.
“This is a big weekend for us,” Generals Head Coach Chris Hartly stated. “Sure, playoff positions are locked, but we need to start playoff hockey right now if we hope to achieve our goal. We all would like to be hoisting the Cascade Cup, and planning for Nationals, when the playoffs are over, but we just have to take it shift by shift and play every game like it could be our last.”
The Generals have won, outright, two of the five season series between Pacific Division foes this season. The Generals have an 8-1 lead over River City with only one game remaining, defeated Puget Sound 7-2, tied Seattle 4-4 (Generals outscored Seattle 38-34 in series), and were defeated by Fort Vancouver 1-8. That only leaves the Tri-City undecided. Along with momentum heading into the playoffs, the Generals would like to get that third season series victory on their resume.
The Generals have battled with Tri-City all year long, with only two games being decided by more than one goal, and both teams earning an overtime victory. The Generals have outscored Tri-City in the series by only three goals (26-23), but have captured the only victories that have been decided by more than a goal. The Generals defeated the Titans on October 14 by a score of 5-2, and more recently the Generals defeated the Titans on December 30 by a score of 5-3. The Generals will have to establish play early if they want to end up with the season series, as they are only 1-3 in one goal games with the Titans. If they are able to establish play early, and don’t allow the Titans back into the game, the Generals should have an excellent opportunity to snag that third season series.
The Generals will face the Titans this Friday and Saturday at TRAC Ice Arena in Pasco, WA at 7:00 PM. Both games will be broadcast on GiTV in audio only. For more information on upcoming games or GiTV please visit eugenegenerals.com.
