Eugene, OR – The Eugene Generals (26-18) dominated the River City Jaguars (4-40) tonight 7-3 for the last game of the 2006-07 regular season. Due to scheduling conflicts, the game was moved to Lane Events Center-Ice, granting the Generals an extra home game. To show their appreciation for the community’s support, the Generals partnered with Food for Lane County for the event. Every fan that purchased a ticket and donated a canned food product received one ticket of equal or greater value for free.
Garrett Bossert was the star of the night, with four points. Ben Tikka also had a big game with three points, while Drew Grifith and Tyler Tymchuck had two points each. Four players from the Jr. Generals AA Midget team, Ian Evans, Kyle McElroy, Brandon Gruber and Glen Cheney, played with the Generals, with Brandon Gruber gaining a point.
“We played pretty well during the regular season but that doesn’t mean anything if we don’t continue to play well in the playoffs,” Generals Head Coach Chris Hartly stated after the game. “The team worked hard tonight and the younger kids really stepped it up. This is exactly what we need to do heading into the playoffs.”
The victory tonight leaves the Generals with a 9-1 thrashing on River City, a 7-2 defeat over Puget Sound, a 4-4 draw with Seattle (Generals outscored Seattle 38-34 in series), a 5-3 vanquish over Tri-City and a loss to Fort Vancouver of 1-8. The Generals end the regular season ranked third in the Pacific Division of the NOR PAC league, clinching their spot in the playoffs.
