The Eugene Generals will travel to Pasco, WA Friday to for the conclusion of the NOR-PAC Western Division Finals against the Tri-City Titans. The Generals head into the conclusion of the series tied with the Titans 1-1 in the best 3 out of 5 series, and hope to finish the Titans en route to the NOR-PAC Cascade Cup Championships. “We really need to stay focused this weekend,” Generals Head Coach Robert Freeland said. “If we play the type of hockey we can for 60 minutes we will be tough to beat.”
The Generals lost their last game to the Titans 4-3, but the Generals never lead in the game, and were only able to score their final goal with less than 30 seconds left on the clock. After a dominating 6-2 performance in the first game of the series, the Generals seemed to come out lackadaisical and never could regain the momentum of the game.
The Generals will also have to fight demons of their first, and only, trip to Pasco. The Generals were defeated by the Titans in their first meeting of the season 4-1 where the Generals out shot the Titans 55-32. The Titans took the Generals to overtime the night after that where the Generals out shot the Titans 65-36. The Generals have never been out shot by the Titans, and in their six meetings, the Generals have out shot the Titans by an average of more than 23 shots per game. The most shots the Generals have allowed the Titans this season was 37, which occurred in their 4-3 loss last Sunday. If the Generals expect to beat the Titans by merely out shooting them, they have another thing coming. The Generals will have to find a way to get more quality opportunities than Tri-City, and limit the Titans to very few of those opportunities. If the Generals manage to do that then they will have they best chance of escaping the Western Division Finals.
