Generals Drop First Game Of EHL Series
The New Jersey 87's defeated the Eugene Generals (2-3-0) by a final score of 4-2 on Wednesday afternoon at the Middletown Sports Complex in Middletown, New Jersey.
Playing in the first of three games this week against EHL and EHL Premier opponents, the Generals took the ice against the 87's of the EHL's Premier Division to start Eugene's first cross-country trip of the season.
Thursday's game between Eugene and New Jersey was played under a showcase format featuring two, 25-minute halves.
The game's first fifteen minutes of play saw both sides trade a handful of chances, but the Gens struck first on Alex Clark's fourth goal of the season, a one-time finish after a perfectly placed saucer pass from Broc Friesen while in transition.
Eugene's lead only stood for a matter of minutes as New Jersey equalized before the break to send both teams into the intermission tied at 1-1.
New Jersey took their first lead of the game early in the second period after converting a two-on-one opportunity, but Eugene responded when Clark netted his second goal of the game with just over fifteen minutes remaining to tie the score at 2-2.
The remainder of the game belonged solely to the 87's, though, as they scored two more goals while stifling Eugene's attack to hand the Generals their third loss of the young season.
Generals goaltender Carson Roisum stopped 33 of 37 shots faced in the losing effort.
Eugene now aims to regroup in less than 24 hours as they'll face off against the Lehigh Valley Jr. Rebels of the EHL on Friday at 12:15pm EST.
The Eugene Generals Hockey Network (EGHN) will aim to provide live, free video coverage of Friday's game pending facility accommodations.
