Locker room renovations for the Generals keep continuing this offseason, with the painting of walls underway.
Throughout the past few months, the Generals staff has been hard at work renovating the locker rooms, which will be completed before Main Camp begins in the middle of August.
When this past season concluded, the Generals decided that after ten years, refurbishments to their locker room were required. After clearing out excess hockey gear and equipment left behind over the years, Generals staff members took out each individual stall and began to clean every inch of the locker room. Even an old CD from the team’s first year was found, which belonged to none other than Head Coach Justin Kern from his playing days.
Once the locker room was cleaned out, the next step of the renovation process saw the painting of the walls. After covering each of the four walls with white paint, the green light was given to start painting with the navy and gold colors of the Generals.
Assistant Coach Daniel Gomez has been working tirelessly over the last few weeks in making sure the locker room is completely done before the players come to Eugene. He hopes that the overdue changes to the locker room will be something that the players can take pride in.
“We completely overhauled the locker room, painted, and refined anything that’s been aging over the last ten years since it hasn’t been done during that time,” explained Gomez. “We’re hoping this is something the players can be really proud of, and have them get the word out about it.”
Coach Gomez also acknowledged how this part of the process would not have been possible without the help of generous volunteers, including Jeff and Trina Morton, Jason and Lanae Falls, as well as Leilani Towner. Jeff and Jason coated the walls with navy and gold stripes, while Trina and Lanae helped sand each individual player stall.
“We had a lot of volunteer help which the project could not have been possible without,” recognized Gomez. “Leilani was also there cleaning with a power washer, cleaning out carpets as well. It really shows the support base we have for the team, with people coming out to help with nothing in it for them.”
Locker room renovations will continue the next few weeks until it is finished before Main Camp. Stay tuned through the Generals’ Facebook and Twitter for more updates about the progress of the locker room this offseason.
