The Eugene Generals will begin their 2017-18 home schedule this weekend with a two-game series against the University of Oregon scheduled for Friday and Saturday evening at The Rink Exchange in Eugene, Oregon.
The Generals enter this weekend's matchup fresh off two weeks of work following a humbling two-game sweep at the hands of the Everett Jr. Silvertips to start the season. Now set to play this season's first games in the friendly confines of The Rink Exchange, Generals players are eager to take the ice against the Ducks for first time ever after having shared the same facility for more than a dozen years.
"I feel like we're at a level where we can play against any opponent that we come across, it's just a matter of how we hold ourselves together," said team captain and Eugene native Jack Thornton. "I'm not worried about playing a college team, I'm more concerned about our own game and how we're able to compete against the Ducks."
Generals defenseman Dayne Cole comes into the weekend as the team's leading goal scorer after netting a pair of goals two weeks ago against the Jr. 'Tips, and goaltender Jamie Frantz will likely be tabbed as the starting netminder as Christopher Alexakis continues to rehab from a lower body injury.
Note: As The Rink Exchange serves as the home facility for both the Generals and Ducks, this weekend's series will see the Ducks serve as "home" team on Friday night while the Generals will be the "home" team on Saturday night. As such, all gameday operations, ticket sales, and so forth will be coordinated by the respective "home" team on each given evening.
Tickets to Friday night's game will be available for purchase at the main entrance before the start of the game while tickets to Saturday night's game are available both in advance via EugeneGenerals.com and in-person starting at 7:00pm at the Eugene Generals Box Office, located at The Rink Exchange.
The Ducks are the first of three collegiate opponents that the Generals will play against this season. As noted earlier this season, the Generals will be playing Tier III junior hockey's most unique and diverse schedule as this year's opponents include teams from the collegiate and Tier I 18U ranks as well as fellow USPHL Elite Division opponents. Next month, the Generals will face off against another collegiate opponent as Arizona State University will play the Gens in Eugene on Thursday, October 26th at 6:00pm (BUY TICKETS).
The University of Oregon men's club hockey team is a member of the PAC-8 Conference and plays in the second division of the American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA). The program has been in operation since 1998 and has won three PAC-8 titles during that time, with the most recent coming in 2008-09.
The Ducks expect to return nine players from last year's roster headlined by forwards Trevor Shott and Nathan Lutz along with defenseman Derek Armstrong. Shott, a PAC-8 All-Star last year and a former two-time player of the year at Fountain Valley School, led the Ducks in goals (15), assists (13) and overall points (28) during the 2016-17 season.
Oregon will also have a new bench boss leading the way this season as Canadian Rylee Orr has taken over the head coaching duties for the UO program and he will be making his debut against the Generals on Friday.

The Matchup We've All Been Waiting For - Despite having shared the same facility for thirteen years, this weekend's series will be only the first time that the two teams have faced off. Two former Generals have gone on to play for the Ducks following the conclusion of their junior hockey careers - Erik Brody (2007-08) and Trevor McCarty (2007-11).
Looking To Lutz - As the Ducks prepare for their first-ever matchup against the Generals, chances are that they'll be looking to teammate Nathan Lutz for some advice. The Portland native previously faced off against the Generals as a member of the West Sound Warriors last season.
Reinforcements Join The Gens - Forward Tyelor Doster (Spokane, WA), who was signed by Head Coach Justin Kern earlier this offseason, is set to join the team ahead of this weekend's matchup against the Ducks.
