Generals Re-Sign Goaltender Christopher Alexakis

The Eugene Generals are proud to announce the return of goaltender Christopher Alexakis for the 2017-18 season.

Alexakis is the team’s eleventh announced signing of the current offseason. He joins forwards William WallaceBlaine KronaNathan LeachGriffin MinchinBroc Friesen and Bradley Maddox; defensemen Dayne ColeJackson Baughman and Dakota Henn; and goaltender Sean Leonard.

Last season, his first with the Generals, Alexakis put forth one of the most memorable seasons by a goaltender in franchise history as his 2.28 G.A.A. broke the single-season franchise record that was previously set by Mario Retana during the 2009-10 season (2.41). In addition, his 20 regular season wins and .927 save percentage finished third and sixth respectively in the USP3HL (minimum 600:00 minutes played).

Combined with his penchant for making big saves in clutch moments, his performance during the 2016-17 season was good enough to earn him the award as the team’s Most Valuable Player.

In a season that saw plenty of stellar performances, Alexakis (above) stood out above the rest as he claimed the team's MVP honor last year.

"If you go back and look at all of the tough games that we were in last season, Chris was a huge part of virtually all of them," said Generals Head Coach Justin Kern. "He's the kind of goaltender that will bail you out when you need it most. He'll step up, make a key save and will always give his teammates a chance to win."

However, always quick to deflect praise, Alexakis made it clear that last year's successes fell on the shoulders of the entire team, not just his. "Last year, we had a really strong team," reflected Alexakis. "The fact that it was our first year in the USPHL really motivated us a lot. In regards to 'highs and lows,' there really weren't any 'lows' during the season and the 'highs' were too many to count."

Alexakis (above) helped lead the team to a historic season last year as he notched 20 of the team's 34 regular season wins.

"Chris is a wonderful kid off of the ice and we love having him as a part of our Generals family," added Coach Kern. "Together, we are all looking forward to pushing him this year and helping him achieve the goals that he wants to achieve."

When asked what made a return to Eugene for a second season so appealing, Alexakis didn't hesitate with his response: "Because it's all about GensFam," said Alexakis. "I say that with a lot of confidence, and that is what it's all about. It's a family, and with how tight-knit everything is I think that we'll be even closer this year than we were last year."
