The Eugene Generals signed former Arapahoe Ice Warriors defenseman Blake Bishop early this morning. Bishop is the first acquisition for the Generals during the 2008 off-season. The 5-9, 165 lb 17 year old from Denver, CO should bring speed and scoring ability to the Generals blue line.
“I think Blake will bring an element of speed and tenacity, which is a very valuable asset to have in a defenseman,” Generals Assistant Coach Jay Miller stated. “While he’ll bring an offensive aspect to the team, we still expect that he will be able to keep pucks from going into our net.”
Last season Bishop played for the Midget Major AA Arapahoe Ice Warriors out of Denver, CO, and was able to put up 5 goals and 7 assists in 19 games.
“I’m really excited about being signed by the Generals,” Bishop stated. “It’s a new experience for me, and I’m really looking forward to it. I hope I can doll out some assists, and score a couple of goals this season. I’ll do whatever I can to help the team.”
Bishop and the rest of the 2008-09 Eugene Generals will be looking to improve on an already impressive 33-15 season, but an early exit from the playoffs.
