Home Sweet Home

Eugene, OR – The Eugene Generals (21-15) were finally able to accomplish what many thought was impossible. The Generals were able to defeat the Fort Vancouver Pioneers (29-5) 4-3 tonight at Lane Events Center-Ice. The Generals hadn’t beaten the first place NOR PAC Pacific Division Pioneers in their previous seven tries, but were finally able to take down their rivals from the north.

“Our guys really earned the victory tonight. They went out and battled and outworked Fort Vancouver for most of the sixty minutes,” Generals Head Coach Chris Hartly stated. “It’s a big boost and it feels great for our guys to get one past this team, but it’s not something we’re going to be complacent with. The biggest thing our guys can take away from tonight is that they can go out any night, no matter who they’re playing, and if they do their jobs and work hard they can go out there and win.”

The win tonight also had major implications for the Generals in the playoff race as they were able to clinch a playoff berth after River City was able to knock off the Puget Sound Tomahawks 6-3 tonight in Beaverton, OR. With two more victories the Generals will clinch the third place spot in the NOR PAC Pacific Division.

Fort Vancouver started the scoring in the game, but Matt Vasilie was assisted by Lucas Romero to knot the game at one. The first period ended with a 1-1 tie, but Fort Vancouver would once again break the tie early in the second. Sean Woodring and Michael Frei assisted Garrett Bossert to knot it up again, and Joe Myers and Justin Adams assisted Lucas Romero to give the Generals their first lead of the game. The Generals would not allow the Pioneers to tie it this time, as Steven Slattery assisted Matt Vasilie for his second of the night and the eventual game winner. The Pioneers were able to put one more goal in the net, but the Generals were able to maintain their one goal lead for the final 6:45 of the third period.

The Generals will face the Pioneers tomorrow night at 7:35 at Lane Events Center-Ice for Veterans and Military Night. The game will be broadcast on GiTV. For more information on upcoming games, Special Event Nights, or GiTV please visit eugenegenerals.com.
