The Eugene Generals tied the Cascade Cup Final Series tonight in a 4-1 victory against the Queen City Cutthroats. In a 180 degree turn, the Generals came out hard, and continued to outwork Queen City the entire game. “When we show up to play we’re a hard team to beat, and we showed up to play today,” Generals Head Coach Robert Freeland said. “I definitely like our chances if we play like this the rest of the series.”
The Generals started the scoring tonight when Paul Martin assisted Matt Vasilie 12:46 into the first period. Queen City came right back, however, scoring less than a minute later to tie the game at 1-1. That would be the last goal Queen City would score in a must win game 2 for the Generals. Ryan Schank would score on the power play with 5 min left in the period to give the Generals a one goal lead. The second period was all Generals as Matt Vasilie assisted Garrett Bossert for a breakaway goal to put the Generals up two 2:42 into the period. Michael Frei and Garrett Bossert assisted Kris Kranzky 11:45 into the second to give the Generals their fourth, and final, goal. The Generals goalie, Spencer Alvarez, played an excellent game; stopping 22 of the 23 Queen City shots.
The Generals will travel to Helena, MT next weekend for series finale against the Cutthroats. The Generals will have to play with a tremendous amount of intensity to come out of the series on top, but if tonight was any indication of how the Generals will complete the series they will have a great chance of moving on to the National Tournament.
