Generals Sign Defenseman Devon Dunn
The Eugene Generals are proud to announce the signing of defenseman Devon Dunn for the 2018-19 season.
A Southern California native (Burbank, CA), Dunn will head north to join the Generals and embark on his first junior hockey season after previously playing for the Burbank Cougars of the Los Angeles Kings High School Hockey League as well as the Pasadena Maple Leafs.
The 6'3", 160-pound blueliner tallied 3 overall points (2 goals, 1 assist) in 15 games played for the Cougars last season.
Dunn popped on the radar of Head Coach Justin Kern while participating at the America's Showcase earlier this year in St. Louis, Missouri. There, the lines of communication were opened up between Kern and Dunn, and soon thereafter the Californian knew that Eugene would be his new home.
"I talked with Coach Kern about my ambitions and goals, and that kind of started the relationship," said Dunn. "I really like how the Generals organization is aiming to develop its players. That's what I want to do; I want to go and play at the highest levels of juniors, and I felt that the Generals would be the best fit for me in terms of my development. For me being from California, [Eugene] wasn't too far from home but still just far enough to provide a unique and different experience."
"Devon will be a great addition to our defense this season," said Head Coach Justin Kern. "He is a dependable defenseman with some size to him who will be able to make that first pass to get the puck moving up the ice. He has a great attitude that will fit in perfectly with our team, and we're excited to have him aboard."
"I'm not necessarily a scorer, but more of a shutdown defenseman," added Dunn. "I do what I have to do to keep guys out of the zone and away from dangerous areas so they don't get opportunities to score."
When looking ahead toward the 2018-19 season, Dunn can barely contain the excitement that comes when just thinking about starting his junior hockey career. "I'm so excited to just eat, sleep and breathe hockey," Dunn says with a chuckle. "I've played plenty of travel hockey and stuff, but it's not the same as going away to play, and that's what I've been wanting and dreaming of doing."
More signings are anticipated in the coming days and weeks as the Generals gear up for the team's fourteenth season of play.
Preparations for 2018-19 continue with the Eugene Generals Training Camp which is scheduled for August 10-13 at The Rink Exchange in Eugene, Oregon. Spots are still available and you can register now at EugeneGenerals.com.
