Rush Race Past Generals
The Eugene Generals (3-8-1) opened up the Islanders Hockey Club Showcase in disappointing fashion as they fell to the Charlotte Rush (17-3-0) by a final score of 4-0 on Friday afternoon at Gallant Arena in Andover, Massachusetts.
Facing off against the Rush for the first time since pool play of the 2017 USPHL Playoffs, a 3-1 victory for the Rush, the Generals took the ice for their first game of the showcase. Meanwhile, the Rush entered the game having already netted a win on the day, a 5-2 victory over the New Hampshire Jr. Monarchs earlier in the morning.
It didn't take long for the Rush to get on the scoreboard as Mark Kishko, who was recently moved down from Charlotte's Premier team, lit the lamp with just 72 seconds off the clock to give the Rush a 1-0 lead.
Kiskho netted his second goal of the game at the 14:43 mark to cap the scoring for the period and send the Rush to the locker room with a formidable 4-0 advantage.
The second period would not see a goal from either side as the Rush would ultimately pick up a 4-0 win to finish the day a perfect 2-0-0.
Despite taking the loss, goaltender Christopher Alexakis put forth an impressive performance in net stopping 41 of 45 shots faced. The start was Alexakis's first of the season after missing the prior two months of play due to a lower body injury.
The next I.H.C. Showcase game on tap for the Generals comes against the Jersey Shore Whalers (6-11-0) on Saturday at 9:50am EST at Gallant Arena. Live video coverage of every USPHL Showcase Series game is available via HockeyTV while live stats are available at USPHL.com.
