Generals Re-Sign Defenseman Nash Berkowitz

The Eugene Generals are proud to announce the return of defenseman Nash Berkowitz for the 2017-18 season.

Berkowitz is the nineteenth announced signing of the current offseason. He joins forwards William WallaceBlaine KronaNathan LeachGriffin MinchinBroc Friesen, Bradley MaddoxDillon FosterAlex ClarkFrazier MohlerJack Thornton and Calvin Hennon; defensemen Dayne ColeJackson BaughmanDakota Henn and Sebastian Llaneras; and goaltenders Sean LeonardChristopher Alexakis and Jamie Frantz.

The San Jose, California native will be entering his fourth season with the Generals where he has tallied 22 goals and 31 assists for 53 overall points in 128 career games (including playoffs).

Berkowitz is coming off a 2016-17 season that saw career highs in goals (11), assists (15) and overall points (26).

"It's been a really fun experience in Eugene," said Berkowitz. "Kern has been a great coach, [Generals GM Flint Doungchak] has helped a lot, and everyone in the organization does a lot for everyone. It's really nice to be in the family atmosphere that they create."

"Nash has been here since I came on as the team's head coach, and he's been one of my favorite players to have around during that time," said Generals Head Coach Justin Kern. "He was a raw player when he arrived in his first year of junior eligibility, so it's been very rewarding to see him grow over the last couple of years into a really good defenseman. He's probably one of everyone's favorite people to have around, he's a hard-working guy and just gets along with everyone."

Berkowitz (above) will be relied upon to bring veteran leadership and experience to a youthful Generals roster.

After helping lead the Generals to the USP3 Pacific Division Championship and the USPHL Playoffs last season, Berkowitz opted to return for his fourth season in Eugene and help continue the upward trajectory that the franchise has taken since his arrival.

"The teams that we are going to play was a huge factor in me deciding to return," said Berkowitz. "Playing against college teams, AAA teams and going to the USPHL Showcases will give us a great opportunity to develop and prepare for the next level. It should be a really fun year."

"I'm going to expect him to be a leader for our defensive group this year," added Kern. "He's going to be one of our most senior defensemen and it will be a chance for him to step up his game and add that leadership quality to it. I think that's one of the biggest reasons that he decided to come back this year. We're going to have a really good group of defensemen and he's got a chance to be the guy and be a leader on the blue line."
