Generals Sign Homegrown Forward Griffin Minchin

The Eugene Generals are proud to announce the signing of forward Griffin Minchin.

The Springfield native is the first local product to sign with the Generals this offseason after having played within the Jr. Generals program since the age of seven.

Minchin is the team’s eighth announced signing of the current offseason and the fifth forward. He joins forwards William WallaceBlaine KronaNathan Leach, and Tyelor Doster; defensemen Dayne Cole and Jackson Baughman; and goaltender Sean Leonard, all of which signed earlier this month.

Last season, Minchin skated with the Jr. Generals 16U team, the first time that the organization had fielded a team at the 16U level. With Generals GM Flint Doungchak serving as the team's head coach, Minchin dominated throughout the season before ultimately helping the 16U Jr. Generals team win the Oregon High School State Championship.

"Playing with the youth program and Flint, Griffin was in the position to play just about every position on the ice," said Generals Head Coach Justin Kern. "He's proven time and time again that he's a resilient player that can kind of do it all out there."

"I think he's going to be in that picture of finesse and grit," added Doungchak. "He really gets it done by winning battles and getting a little gritty out there."

Skating with the 16U team wasn't the only ice time that Griffin got last season, though, as Minchin also served as a practice player for the Eugene Generals throughout the entire USPHL season. Now, the local kid is ready to make the jump to juniors and play for his hometown team.

"I felt that I was ready for the next step and that this was the right step to take," said Minchin. "Serving as a practice player was a grind, but it really helped. I felt better and more comfortable as the practices went along and I think it really helped in stepping up my game."

Minchin (above) participates at the 2017 USA Hockey Pacific District Player Development Camp in San Jose, California.

"He's the type of player that when the game is on the line players look forward to him making something happen," said Kern, "and I look forward to seeing him grow in to his own as a junior-level player."
