Generals Sign Defenseman Jackson Baughman

The Eugene Generals are proud to announce the signing of defenseman Jackson Baughman.

Baughman is the team’s seventh announced signing of the current offseason and the second defenseman. He joins forwards William Wallace, Blaine Krona, Nathan Leach, Tyelor Doster, defenseman Dayne Cole and goaltender Sean Leonard, all of whom signed earlier this month.

The Windsor, California native joins the Generals after previously playing for the Santa Rosa Junior Hockey Club. The blue liner was originally slated to join the Generals last season following the completion of his high school football season, however an injury suffered playing for Windsor High School delayed his hockey plans for the year. Now, having taken the offseason to fully recover, Baughman is ready and eager to make the trip to Eugene and join the Generals family.

A multi-sport athlete, Baughman (#8) racked up a team-high 953 rushing yards and 22 total touchdowns for Windsor High School this past season while also tallying 3 interceptions and 62 total tackles on the defensive side of the ball. Despite suffering an injury midway through the season and being forced to sport a cast, Baughman still helped carry the Jaguars to the North Coast Section Division II Championship Game (photo via Alvin Jordana / Press Democrat).

"Actually, Jackson was initially planning on joining the team last year," said Head Coach Justin Kern. "He attended our Main Camp and performed very well, but he wanted to return home for his senior football season and honor a commitment that he had made to his teammates. That was a decision that we greatly respected, and the plan was for him to join following the football season, but unfortunately an injury temporarily delayed those plans."

One year later, the impression that Eugene had made on Jackson still continued to resonate deeply as recruiting season ramped up again. "I just remember really liking the environment up there," said Baughman. "Hanging around the rink with the other guys, I realized that it was a very tight knit community and they definitely like to play some good hockey up there. It really felt like a family."

Now fully healed and ready to hit the ice, Coach Kern is confident that Baughman will prove to be a talented two-way player while manning the Generals blue line this season. "He'll definitely bring that running back mentality," chuckled Kern. "He's the kind of player that will run into you, bounce off and just keep going. Good speed and really versatile. He's 100% team-first and I think the guys will really rally around him in the locker room."
